‘Glas’ is a unique Cornish word with no direct English translation. It captures the myriad natural blue and green colours of the sea - an ever changing presence and inspiration for artists across the coastline.
This event brings together makers that are deeply inspired by this landscape. In an elegant collection textured by the rhythms of handwork and naturally grown materials.
Art by Amy Brock Morgan
Large, impactful textile hangings by Amy Brock Morgan, who composes found materials and natural fabrics into peaceful interior artwork. Where slowly patch worked panels are off set with organic, granite-like formations.
Wool by Carnwear
Rooted in the heart of West Cornwall, Carnwear knit together the colours of their rugged moorland and dramatic coastal paths. The journey of each garment is transeasonal and long lasting by nature. Ready to return to the soil after a good life of wear.
Clay by EOT Ceramics
Emily Tapp’s hand thrown ceramics evoke glassy coves, changing skies and salted rock. With rutile and iron oxide glazes made from scratch, she creates variegated, natural surfaces that catch the light of Cornwall.
Cloth by Sarah Johnson
Sarah Johnson studio make every day indigo and ecru clothing that is grounded in how it feels to be worn. Beautiful womenswear in clean and simple cuts that give space to the story of natural fibres.
Light by Studio Haran
Expertly designed and honestly crafted interior lighting by Studio Haran, who find harmonious shapes in slip cast ceramics and wood. Sculptural pieces that contrast flecked glaze with smooth grain in minimal, sleek silhouettes.
Sheepskin by Nogi Clothing
Allegra works in rhythm with sheepskin hides and her West Cornwall surroundings with a meticulous hand stitched process. She finds ritual in her work that honours the animal that it comes from and rediscovers a richness in clothing that has become lost.
Woven by Rae Weaver
Rae’s practice is a considered and optimistic response to a fast-paced world: To offer a tactile and nostalgic means of comfort and an aid for meditation and calm. Navigating a journey of grief, a lifetime passion for music and her rural homeland of West Penwith are all woven into the intricate layers of her design and process.
This collection will present unique wool pieces that are entirely reared, milled and handwoven in Cornwall. Created on a one-of-a-kind dobby loom Rae hand built in collaboration with her partner Eric, a traditional ships rigger.
Film by James Bannister
James Bannister is a Documentary, Portrait and Editorial photographer based in the UK and working internationally. His personal work focuses on long format, narrative photo book projects.
For this show, James presents a still life portrait of the Leach Pottery studio, founded in 1920 by Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada. Over the last hundred years it has forged the shape of Studio Pottery in the UK and beyond, and continues as one of the most respected and influential potteries in the world.
