CARE GUIDE

We make things built to last, yet a lifetime of use takes its toll on anything. We believe care and attention extends beyond the making process, by looking after our objects we help to keep them strong and in faithful service for many years to come.

Below are our recommended guidelines in caring for the various materials we use. If you have any questions regarding care you can get in touch with us directly at hello@francli.co.uk

RUCKSACK FABRIC CARE

WAXED CANVAS + COTTON CANVAS

  • Do not machine wash

  • Clear dry dirt with a stiff brush - a toothbrush can also work!

  • Spot clean marks with a damp cloth - add a some light detergent for stubborn stains

  • For waxed canvases, we recommend a weatherproof treatment to replenish the fabric after cleaning and protect the surface for future use - our favourite is Fjallraven Greenland wax for a clean, dry finish. Follow instructions on the packaging (top tip - use a hairdryer for easy application and an even impregnation)

  • Air dry overnight

RUCKSACK BASE + LEATHER ACCESSORIES CARE

VEGETABLE TANNED LEATHER

  • Do not machine wash

  • Gently clear dry dirt with a cloth

  • Spot clean marks and stains with a lightly dampened cloth

  • Well maintained, conditioned leather stays strong and supple for a lifetime. The oil content varies from hide to hide but you can tell by eye when the leather is becoming dehydrated (dry, lined, cracked). We recommend Otter Wax leather care products and tools for high quality, all-natural nourishment. A quick fix for some thirsty leather is to lightly coat your hands with a good quality olive oil or coconut oil and gently handle it - be sure to do this in small stages to avoid uneven discolouring

  • Air dry overnight
