DUO-HUE creates striking homewares and accessories that combine innovative digital craft with timeless design. All in the spirit of creative collaboration. Designed, made and embroidered in Britain.
Developed by Amelia Ayerst at the Royal College of Art (RCA), DUO-HUE is a unique digital embroidery stitch, combining complementary colour-ways and differing stitch densities to create a colour-morphing effect as the product moves.
When Amelia first reached out to Francli, it was a conversation across two very different realms of the design + textiles world. Despite both working with cloth, ‘unique digital embroidery stitch’ and ‘colour-morphing’ are terms we rarely come across in our studio. With a couple of samples of Amelia’s distinctive surface design, we were immediately aligned. DUO-HUE transforms fabric. Amelia can take our heavy, rustic army surplus canvas and revitalise it. Becoming something vibrant, contemporary and utterly luxurious. And yet, the layers of iridescent stitch do not erase the fabrics original character. A unique pairing of heritage and modern, giving surplus materials a new lease of life in unexpected ways.
